ABOUT INVESTING WITH BOYCE & ASSOCIATES

  • Are you a fiduciary?

Yes, we are fiduciaries. That means we are legally and ethically obligated to act in your best interest at all times. We follow the Fiduciary Rule as defined by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and always put your financial needs first. You can expect objective guidance, transparent recommendations, and a relationship built on trust and integrity.

  • How are you compensated?

We are a fee-based advisory firm. That means:

    • For investment management, we charge an annual percentage-based advisory fee based on the value of your assets under our management. This fee is billed monthly in arrears (after the fact) and is deducted directly from your investment account.
    • For financial planning, clients can choose between a one-time fee of $3,500 or a monthly subscription of $250 for ongoing support.
    • For college planning, we charge a one-time fee that starts at $500 for the first student, and a reduced rate of $150 for each additional child.

We do not receive commissions on investment products, ensuring our recommendations are unbiased. However, some of our advisers are licensed insurance agents and may receive a commission on insurance products, if deemed suitable. In these cases, any potential conflicts of interest are fully disclosed to you up front.

  • What percentage do you take?

Our investment management fees are tiered based on the total value of assets we manage for you. Here's our current annual fee schedule:

    • 1.25% for the first $499,999
    • 1.05% for $500,000–$999,999
    • 0.85% for $1M–$2.99M
    • 0.55% for $3M–$4.99M
    • 0.40% for $5M–$9.99M
    • 0.30% for $10M and above

These percentages are applied monthly based on your account’s ending balance for the prior month. If you and your immediate family members have multiple accounts at the same mailing address, we can consolidate them for billing purposes. All fees are transparent and negotiable.

  • What is your investment philosophy?

We believe in building long-term, goal-focused, diversified portfolios that align with your financial goals, timeline, and risk tolerance. Our investment philosophy combines several research-based strategies to help manage risk and pursue sustainable growth:

    • Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT): We use MPT to create diversified portfolios designed to maximise return for your unique level of risk tolerance.
    • Fundamental Analysis: We evaluate the financial health, performance, and potential of companies and securities.
    • Technical and Cyclical Analysis: We analyze market trends, economic cycles, and price patterns to guide asset allocation.
    • Ongoing Monitoring and Rebalancing: We review your portfolio regularly and rebalance it as needed, typically twice a year or more often if market conditions or your financial goals change.
  • How safe is my account?

Client assets are custodied at Charles Schwab, one of the largest brokerage firms in the US.

Boyce & Associates Wealth has a Limited Power of Attorney to trade and fee on your account. We never have direct access to any money in your account.

All accounts at Charles Schwab are covered by SIPC insurance.

  • What’s the difference between a wealth manager and financial advisor?

A financial advisor typically helps clients with specific areas like investments, retirement planning, insurance, or budgeting. Their role is to offer guidance on certain financial decisions, often focusing on building and managing investment portfolios or helping clients reach particular financial goals.

A wealth manager, on the other hand, provides a broader and more integrated service. At Boyce Wealth, our wealth management includes investment management plus strategic planning for taxes, estate, retirement, business transitions, education funding, and risk management. It’s a comprehensive approach designed for individuals and families who want to coordinate all aspects of their financial life in one place.

  • Is a wealth manager worth it?

Yes, especially if you have multiple investment accounts, own a business, are planning for retirement, saving for college, or need estate and tax planning. At Boyce Wealth, we create a personalized strategy that covers everything: managing your portfolio, coordinating with your CPA and attorney, planning for major life events, and helping reduce unnecessary taxes and risk.

  • What certifications should a Financial Planner have?

There are several different financial planning certifications. While a financial planning professional can have any of several designations or certifications, at the very least, you should make sure that he or she is licensed and in good standing with the licensing authority. Three of the most common designations are Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Financial Consultant, and Registered Investment Advisor.

A Certified Financial Planner (CFP) has competency and experience in all areas of financial planning. A CFP has completed courses of study in over 100 topics of financial management, including equities, taxes, and retirement planning. He or she must also follow the Certified Financial Planner code of ethics. A CFP has a fiduciary responsibility.

A Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) also has extensive experience in helping individuals assess their financial goals. In order to obtain the ChFC certification, a candidate must complete the program and pass the tests administered by the American College.

Boyce & Associates Wealth also has Wealth Advisors with the Accredited Asset Manager Designation (AAMS), Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Accredited Small Business Consultants (ASBC), and Non-Qualified Plan Consultants (NQPA).

  • What licenses do you have?

Boyce & Associates Wealth Consulting is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a Registered Investment Adviser (RIA). Our firm’s CRD number is 288157. This means we are held to a fiduciary standard and required to act in your best interest.
